Mirpurkhas (Pakistan News) — Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has said street checks will be conducted to prevent the misuse of pink scooters, adding that scooters will be seized if men are found riding them.
Addressing a ceremony in Mirpurkhas for the distribution of free pink scooters, Sharjeel Memon said the Benazir Income Support Programme is for women across Pakistan, adding that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto introduced the concept of women’s empowerment.
He said the pink scooter scheme for women was launched by Bilawal Bhutto, adding that the distribution of free scooters in Mirpurkhas is an important step toward women’s development.
Sharjeel Memon said, “I swear that the free scooters have been given to women purely on merit.” He added that so far 50,000 women have applied for driving licences, expressing the desire that all these women be provided scooters after obtaining their licences.
He said there was a time when even the idea of making identity cards for women in remote areas did not exist, adding that the Pakistan Peoples Party has done the most work to empower women.
The provincial minister further said that a pink taxi service for women would also be launched soon, while the distribution of pink scooters to women would continue. Sindh is the only province providing free electric scooters to women.
