Power Consumers May Face Additional Rs36.54 Billion Burden in September

Islamabad (Commerce Desk): Electricity consumers are likely to face an additional financial burden of Rs36.54 billion in September.

According to sources, the power regulator has reserved its decision on a request to increase the electricity tariff by Rs2.52 per unit under the July fuel price adjustment. If approved, the additional amount will be recovered through electricity bills issued in September.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency had requested the tariff increase based on electricity generation costs in July. It maintained that the use of expensive fuel had increased the cost of electricity generation.

During the hearing, the initial additional burden on consumers, including taxes, was estimated at Rs41 billion. However, after a review, the recoverable additional amount was set at Rs36.54 billion.
