Islamabad (Commerce Desk) Preparations for the formal launch of modern 5G technology internet services in Pakistan are progressing rapidly, and the service is expected to be available nationwide by mid-August.
However, according to experts, limited availability of compatible mobile phones and heavy taxation remain major obstacles to the rollout of 5G.
Telecom companies have proposed to the government that installment-based mobile phone schemes should be introduced to help users purchase 5G-enabled devices, enabling more people to benefit from the new technology.
Another proposal suggests that defaulters should not be issued SIM cards by any company in order to improve system regulation and accountability.
Sources also indicate that users of certain smartphones, particularly iPhones, may not immediately benefit from 5G services, as full 5G support from Apple in Pakistan is expected around 2027.
Officials say that high import taxes have already limited the smartphone market in the country, which could also affect the broader expansion of 5G services.
