Preventing PTI from Campaigning Amounts to Pre-Election Rigging: Barrister Gohar

Gilgit (Pakistan News) — Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has said that preventing his party from conducting an election campaign is equivalent to pre-election rigging and undermines the democratic process.

Addressing a corner meeting in Gilgit-Baltistan, he stated that political leaders who failed to secure public support in their own constituencies have now come to seek votes from the people of Gilgit-Baltistan. He added that the region’s politically aware and self-respecting citizens would reject such elements and their politics.

Barrister Gohar said that stopping party leaders and members of the National Assembly from holding public gatherings and voter outreach campaigns, as well as sending some individuals out of the province, is contrary to constitutional and democratic principles.

He alleged that the strategy of rival political forces over the past several years has been focused on restricting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in order to gain an advantage in the electoral arena, but maintained that the public would not be influenced by such tactics.

The PTI chairman warned that if the party’s alleged political isolation is not addressed, the leadership may consider various options, including a boycott of legislative assemblies. He added that withdrawing from the current political system could also be discussed if conditions do not improve.

He reaffirmed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf would continue its struggle for what it describes as its political and democratic rights.
