Islamabad (Web Desk) — The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has decided to block WhatsApp accounts linked to inactive, cancelled or no-longer-used SIMs.
The PTA has directed users to keep their WhatsApp accounts linked to current and active mobile numbers. Users who change their mobile numbers should immediately use WhatsApp’s number-change option, while the action may be initiated at any time.
According to the PTA, some WhatsApp accounts linked to inactive mobile numbers are being used for fraud and other illegal activities.
The authority has urged users to verify the current status of their SIMs and, if any number has become inactive, take the necessary steps in a timely manner.
The PTA said that changing the mobile number on WhatsApp in a timely manner will enable users to retain control of their accounts and also protect them from the misuse of inactive numbers.
