PTA issues advisory, strict warning over illegal SIM usage

Islamabad (Web Desk) The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a new advisory regarding the illegal use of SIM cards.

According to the spokesperson, citizens have been warned that handing over a SIM registered in their name to another person is a criminal offence and may lead to legal action and punishment. Similarly, using a SIM registered in someone else’s name is also considered illegal.

The authority clarified that any unlawful activity carried out through a SIM will be the responsibility of the person in whose name the SIM is registered.

PTA has advised citizens to check all SIMs registered against their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) and immediately block any unnecessary or unknown numbers.

The advisory further states that new SIMs should only be obtained from authorized franchises or customer service centers to avoid fraud and illegal usage risks.

PTA urged the public to ensure safe and responsible use of SIMs to help prevent cybercrime and other illegal activities.
