Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has issued important guidelines for consumers purchasing mobile phones, stating that illegal or unregistered mobile devices are automatically blocked under its regulatory system.
According to the PTA, under the Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS), mobile phones that are not approved by the authority are automatically blocked.
The authority stated that the system was introduced to prevent fraud, smuggling, and other illegal activities while ensuring the registration of mobile phones in the country.
According to the PTA, devices carrying identification numbers of unregistered international mobile phones are blocked through this system, which may cause inconvenience for users.
The authority has advised consumers to verify the legal status of a mobile phone before purchasing it and to ensure that their device is registered with the PTA after paying the applicable duties and taxes set by the Federal Board of Revenue.
