Islamabad (Web Desk): The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an important advisory on the safe use of mobile SIM cards, warning users that allowing another person to use a SIM card registered in their name is a violation of the law.
In its official message, the PTA stated that a SIM card registered in an individual's name could be used for illegal activities, and the registered owner may also be held legally responsible. Therefore, citizens have been advised not to allow anyone else to use SIM cards registered in their names.
The Authority also advised users to verify the number of SIM cards registered against their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC). This information can be obtained by visiting cnic.sims.pk or by sending the CNIC number, without dashes, via SMS to 668. If any unknown or unnecessary SIM card is found to be registered, users should have it blocked immediately.
The PTA further advised that new SIM cards should only be obtained from authorized franchises or customer service centers. Users should also ensure that no new SIM card is registered in their name without their knowledge or consent.
The Authority reiterated its earlier warning that people should never provide biometric verification to unauthorized individuals in exchange for free SIM cards or other incentives. Such fraudulent practices may result in additional SIM cards being issued in a person's name, potentially leading to legal and financial complications.
