Lahore (Pakistan Khabar): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that the crime rate in the province has decreased by 70 percent, while different institutions of Punjab working together as a team are a major strength of the government.
Speaking at the inauguration of Punjab's Artificial Intelligence Centre, Maryam Nawaz said that the government has tried to ensure compliance with the law for every segment of society. She said that it feels good to see the law being applied to others, but following it oneself can sometimes seem difficult.
The Chief Minister said that making citizens wear helmets while riding motorcycles was not an easy decision. She said she feels saddened when reports of motorcycle riders being involved in accidents emerge. She said that she also faces criticism for taking action against criminal elements, but if avoiding criticism had been the objective, she too could have remained silent.
Maryam Nawaz expressed sorrow over incidents involving the harassment of children, saying that such incidents are extremely painful. She said that such incidents shake a person's faith in humanity.
She said that providing citizens with a safe environment is not an easy task. The government has taken several difficult decisions by putting itself at risk. Today, everyone's attention is focused on Punjab, and billions of rupees have been spent on improving law and order in the province.
The Punjab Chief Minister said that terrorists had night-vision cameras, after which the police were also provided with such modern cameras. Checkposts have also been established at various locations to secure the province's borders.
Maryam Nawaz said that in the past, numerous incidents of robbery and other crimes were reported from the riverine areas, but crime there has now been brought under control and the writ of the state has been established in the riverine region.
