Recommendation to End License and Fee Requirement for Small Solar Users, Power Division’s Review Request to NEPRA

Islamabad (Commerce Desk): On the directive of Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Owais Ahmed Khan Leghari, the Power Division has formally submitted a request to the NEPRA for the removal of licensing and fee requirements for solar users with systems below 25 kilowatts.

According to details, the Power Division stated that under the old 2015 regulations, solar systems of 25 kilowatts or less did not require a NEPRA license, and such applications were processed through distribution companies without any fee.

However, under the new regulations, approval from NEPRA has been made mandatory even for small solar users, along with the imposition of an application fee, which the Power Division has now recommended be reviewed.

The Power Division said that this change has created unnecessary administrative hurdles for domestic consumers and could negatively affect efforts to promote renewable energy in the country.
