MOSCOW (Monitoring Desk): Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that cyber threats have reached alarming levels amid the growing use of digital technology, prompting Russia to further strengthen its digital sovereignty and cybersecurity systems.
Addressing a meeting on cybersecurity, President Putin said the sustainable development of the state and society depended largely on the effective use of modern digital technologies. He stressed that cybersecurity was therefore of exceptional importance to Russia.
He said Russia faced direct and indirect external pressure across various sectors, including the economy, logistics, transportation, social services, urban infrastructure and government administration. Under these circumstances, he added, modernising all aspects of the country’s digital protection had become essential.
According to Putin, Russia is continuously strengthening its sovereignty across multiple sectors, ranging from food security and energy security to digital infrastructure.
He instructed relevant authorities to improve threat assessment and analysis, monitor dependence on foreign digital platforms, and strengthen the country’s ability to respond swiftly to cyberattacks.
The Russian president also called for closer coordination and cooperation among law enforcement agencies, security services, telecommunications companies, financial institutions and internet service providers.
Putin said Russia was systematically developing digital infrastructure for its economy and social sectors while expanding the range of artificial intelligence-based services. He added that advanced systems for storing, processing and transmitting data were also being introduced.
