Mumbai (Sports Desk): A minor dispute during a local cricket match in India turned tragic when an umpire was killed following a run-out decision controversy.
According to media reports, the incident occurred in Visakhapatnam, where umpire Dola Ajith Babu became the victim of the violent altercation.
Police stated that during a match involving three teams on Sunday evening, an argument broke out over a run-out decision, which was initially resolved by the umpire and his colleague.
However, later a spectator became enraged over the issue and called the umpires under the pretense of discussion. During the renewed argument, he suddenly attacked with a knife.
The umpire sustained critical injuries and succumbed to his wounds, while others were also injured in the attack.
According to the victim’s family, the accused was under the influence of alcohol and had allegedly planned the attack in advance. The suspect fled the scene, and police have launched a search operation to apprehend him.
