Kabul (Monitoring Desk): After the Taliban came to power, Afghanistan became the only country in the world where teenage girls are banned from attending school. However, some people living outside Afghanistan are continuing efforts to ensure that Afghan girls can pursue their education.
As part of these efforts, a school established for Afghan girls in Rwanda has been reopened. The school's head, Shabana Basij-Rasikh, expressed her gratitude over the initiative, saying that she was very grateful for the effort.
According to Shabana Basij-Rasikh, when the Taliban took control of Afghanistan's capital, Kabul, in 2021, the educational prospects of millions of girls came to an end. She said that at the time, all school records were first burned to protect students, parents, and staff from potential danger.
She wrote on the school's website that all information regarding the students' names, their stories, and their identities was destroyed so that the Taliban could not trace them.
The Sola School, also known as the School of Leadership Afghanistan, was at that time the only residential school for girls in Afghanistan. However, many of its hundreds of students, including school head Shabana Basij-Rasikh, have now left Afghanistan.
