Savings from Austerity Will Be Spent on Public Relief: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif

Islamabad (Pakistan News): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that savings achieved through austerity measures will be spent on public relief.

In view of the current regional situation, a key meeting was held under the Prime Minister’s chairmanship to review petroleum price stability and government cost-saving measures. It was decided that funds saved through austerity would be allocated for public relief.

The meeting also resolved that salaries of employees in government and autonomous institutions would be reduced by 5 to 30 percent. Additionally, government representatives on corporate boards will no longer receive participation fees, and all embassies have been instructed to observe the March 23 celebrations in a simple manner.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and law enforcement agencies continue their work as usual. The meeting further decided that over the next two months, fuel consumption for official vehicles will be cut by 50 percent, and 60 percent of vehicles will be grounded. This decision will undergo a third-party audit, and new vehicle purchases will remain prohibited.
