New Delhi (Monitoring Desk) — Student protests in India against alleged irregularities in the education system, government recruitment and lack of transparency in examinations have intensified further. In the state of Bihar, civil service aspirants took to the streets to press for their demands.
According to the Indian publication Deccan Herald, students have been protesting for some time against alleged irregularities in recruitment, postponement of examinations and paper leaks. The protesters are demanding transparency in the examination system and opportunities for young people to advance on the basis of merit.
According to the report, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi criticized the Narendra Modi government over the controversy surrounding the BPSC examinations. He alleged that the government was using the police to avoid accountability.
In its analysis of the protests, Deccan Herald linked the police action to questions about the governing style and conduct of the Bharatiya Janata Party government.
On the other hand, protesting students claimed that police used batons and water cannons to disperse demonstrators and arrested several people. Citizens have also expressed concern over alleged police violence and arrests.
Protest leader Aman Kumar said that the youth’s struggle against the deterioration of the education system and paper leak scandals would continue until the education minister resigns from office.
