NEW DELHI (Monitoring Desk): Student protests against alleged irregularities in India’s education system and exam paper leaks have spread from Delhi to various states, with young protesters still present on the streets.
According to media reports, students are increasingly demanding answers from the Indian government over alleged irregularities in educational matters. Protesters are also continuing to demand the resignations of Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Videos circulating on social media show young people protesting in various states, including Kerala, Arunachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Goa, Gujarat, Bihar, and West Bengal.
Reports stated that Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi was also detained by police for supporting the student protests, following which several political parties protested against the action.
Opposition leader Priyanka Gandhi reacted to the alleged use of force by security personnel, saying that students were being subjected to baton charges and tear gas.
According to human rights organization Amnesty International, the pictures and videos emerging from the protests indicate growing concerns that peaceful dissent may be suppressed in India.
