Mumbai (Showbiz Desk) — Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu has said that she does not want to limit herself to serious and strong female characters and now wishes to experiment with different kinds of roles.
According to the actress, continuously playing the same type of roles is not mentally suitable for her, which is why she wants to choose characters that audiences could never have imagined seeing her play before.
Taapsee said that in the film industry, actresses are often confined to specific categories. Some are considered suitable only for glamorous roles, while others are viewed as appropriate for serious films based on social issues.
She said that because of this mindset, she has also been turning down certain films and sometimes clearly tells filmmakers that if a character has an ending that audiences can already predict, they should not select her for it.
According to Taapsee, during the early years of her career, she did not receive many heroine roles in conventional commercial films, as a result of which she preferred strong and distinctive characters.
The actress said she is happy to have played strong female characters, but now wants greater variety in her work so that audiences do not view her through only one particular image.
She said that films such as “Soorma,” “Mission Mangal” and “Dunki” also gave her opportunities to work beyond conventional serious roles. Taapsee Pannu’s new film “Gandhari” will be released on Netflix on September 3.
