TEXAS (Web Desk): American company Tesla has unveiled its next-generation Roadster sports car, which demonstrated the ability to briefly rise into the air, rotate and land back on the ground during a demonstration.
The new Roadster features thrusters inspired by SpaceX rocket technology. A system using compressed air and approximately 10 nozzles has been proposed to lift the vehicle into the air.
During the demonstration, the car was shown moving backwards up a ramp, jumping into the air, rotating while airborne and landing safely back on the ground.
However, its ability to sustain flight like a conventional aircraft or helicopter has not yet been demonstrated. According to Tesla, the Roadster can accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in less than one second, while its top speed is claimed to exceed 230 miles per hour.
The company has presented the vehicle as a showcase of its advanced engineering and technological capabilities. Tesla chief Elon Musk has announced plans to begin production of the car in 2028.
The concept of the new Roadster was first unveiled in 2017, with deliveries initially promised to begin in 2020. However, the project has faced repeated delays.
