Washington (Monitoring Desk): US President Donald Trump has hinted at launching fresh strikes against Iran soon, saying the United States has hit Iran hard and that further military action may be possible.
Speaking to reporters outside the White House, Donald Trump raised the possibility of additional military action against Iran. Asked about the impact of the war on voters during the US midterm elections, he said that, in a way, voters liked the move because the United States was doing what, in his view, previous presidents should have done.
Trump added that some voters might not approve of the decision. He said there was a price to pay for such a decision, and he had understood that when taking the step. However, he stressed that the United States could not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.
Earlier, the US president had denied that negotiations were taking place with Iran, saying the two countries were not engaged in talks and that developments regarding the conflict could emerge soon. He claimed that the United States was performing better than Iran in both military and financial terms.
Donald Trump also accused Iran of driving up oil prices ahead of the US midterm elections. In a statement on social media, he said the volume of oil passing through the Strait of Hormuz was higher than it had been before the conflict began in February. He claimed that Iran was therefore making false allegations about attacks and incidents involving naval mines.
Meanwhile, a report by a US newspaper has claimed that the United States and Israel have planned fresh attacks on Iran following the US midterm elections.
According to the report, a US official said the armed forces of both countries had also stepped up drills for potential attacks. The report claimed that possible targets could include Iran’s energy infrastructure, nuclear facilities, and stockpiles of missiles and drones.
