Washington (Monitoring Desk) — US President Donald Trump has rejected media reports claiming that he offered Iran relief from sanctions and the return of frozen assets, calling the reports baseless.
In a statement on the social media platform Truth Social, Donald Trump said he had made no such offer to Iran and that a report by US media outlet Axios was false.
Trump alleged that the report was based on bias against him and had been published to advance the agenda of his opponents. He demanded that Axios immediately retract the report.
It may be recalled that US media had earlier reported that the Trump administration was considering easing economic sanctions and restoring frozen Iranian assets in exchange for concrete progress in Iran’s nuclear programme.
US officials told Axios and CNN on condition of anonymity that the United States was engaged in positive and constructive talks with Iran through intermediaries.
However, according to US officials, no agreement would be reached with Iran without complete progress on nuclear issues, and the Trump administration remains committed to this position.
