Trump: Talks Underway to End Russia-Ukraine War

Washington (Monitoring Desk): US President Donald Trump has said that negotiations are underway to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, adding that he does not want to take any action that could drive Russia away from the negotiating table.

President Trump said his position on Russia was very clear and that significant progress was being made in the negotiations, including on matters related to the release of hostages.

He said Russia was providing little assistance to Iran, or perhaps no assistance at all, despite being capable of doing much more. According to Trump, he wants the situation to remain as it is and does not want unnecessary obstacles to disrupt the negotiating process.

Trump accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of targeting oil refineries in Russia that process diesel, saying the attacks were affecting the global diesel market as well as the United States.

According to the US president, these attacks were causing heavy losses for farmers, livestock owners and businesses operating in various sectors. He claimed that despite the attacks, Russia was still supplying millions of barrels of diesel to the world at low prices, but Zelensky did not care about the situation.

President Trump further said that despite substantial financial assistance from Europe and support previously provided by former US President Joe Biden, Zelensky was not interested in ending the war. Trump claimed that Zelensky had never been interested in ending the conflict.

Trump said Ukraine could have secured a much better deal two years ago than the one it could obtain under the current circumstances. He claimed that the country was being devastated, had lost control of vast areas of territory, and had seen a large proportion of its male population killed or wounded.

Criticising Ukraine’s military situation, the US president reiterated that negotiations to end the war were still underway and that he wanted to avoid actions that could push Russia away from dialogue.
