Washington (Sports Desk): The United States has issued visas to Iran’s national football team to allow their participation in the upcoming FIFA World Cup, according to reports.
Reuters, citing a White House official on Friday, confirmed that the Iranian squad has been granted visas. Earlier, Iran’s ambassador to Mexico, Abolfazl Pasandideh, had stated on Thursday night that the national squad had not yet received U.S. visas.
However, the White House later confirmed that all necessary visas were issued promptly.
Iran is placed in Group G and will begin its campaign on June 15 against New Zealand in Los Angeles. The team will also play Belgium in the same city, while its final group match against Egypt is scheduled in Seattle.
It is worth noting that due to ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States, Iran’s participation in the tournament had been uncertain. However, the issue has now been resolved following the issuance of visas just days before the event.
