California (Web Desk) — Instant messaging application WhatsApp is testing a new feature for users that will make it easier to remember the birthdays of friends and family members.
According to reports, WhatsApp is working on a new Contacts tab in the iOS version, where users may be shown reminders about the birthdays of saved contacts.
The feature is currently in the testing phase, but it may also be introduced for Android users in the future.
In WhatsApp’s new navigation design, the existing Updates tab is being replaced by a Contacts tab, while Status updates and Channels are expected to be moved to the Chats section.
According to the report, WhatsApp may use birthday information already saved in the phone’s Contacts app for birthday reminders, meaning users will not need to create a separate birthday list in WhatsApp.
If a saved contact has a birthday, a cake emoji and the message “It’s their birthday today” may appear next to the person’s name in the Contacts tab. The reminder is expected to remain visible throughout the day so users can wish their friends or loved ones on time.
The feature is currently in the testing phase, and WhatsApp has not officially announced its availability or final version.
