CALIFORNIA (Web Desk): Popular messaging application WhatsApp has made it easier for users to join calls with the introduction of a new feature that allows people without a WhatsApp account to participate in calls.
According to a WhatsApp blog post, users can create a call link and share it with people who do not use the application. Recipients will be able to open the link in a web browser on their computers and join the call.
The company said the feature would be available for both individual and group calls, with up to 32 participants able to join at the same time. Conversations involving participants who join through a link will also be protected by end-to-end encryption.
The new feature will provide users with basic facilities, including the ability to raise their hands and share their screens. Calls will be free of charge and will have no time limits.
How to Create a WhatsApp Call Link
To create a call link, users need to open the Calls section in the WhatsApp application and tap the plus (+) sign to generate a link.
Once created, the link can be shared with the people who are invited to join the call. Recipients can open it in a web browser, enter their names and join the conversation after receiving permission from the host.
It is worth noting that a WhatsApp account is required to create a call link, but people joining a call through that link will not need to create an account.
WhatsApp also announced plans to introduce additional functionality in the near future to integrate call links with Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook. The move is expected to make it easier for users to schedule online meetings and conversations.
