California (Web Desk): Popular instant messaging application WhatsApp has announced a new “Guest Calling” feature that will allow people without WhatsApp accounts to be invited to join calls.
Under the new feature, users will be able to create a call invitation link and share it with anyone. According to the company, there will be no time limit on calls, and conversations will remain protected by end-to-end encryption.
With this feature, guests joining a call will initially be placed in a waiting room and will only be able to participate after the host grants permission. The host will also have the authority to remove a guest from the call at any time.
According to WhatsApp, guests will not be able to see the phone numbers of other participants, send them messages, or make direct calls to them. However, they will be able to share their screens with others, react during calls, and raise their hands to speak.
The feature will be available in WhatsApp’s “Calls” section, where users can create invitation links and send them to the people they wish to invite.
The company further stated that it plans to integrate the feature with Google Calendar and Outlook Calendar by the end of this year. Following the integration, users will be able to generate WhatsApp call invitation links directly from their calendars.
