WhatsApp Introduces New Security Feature to Protect Users from Unknown Numbers

California (Web Desk): WhatsApp has introduced a new security feature aimed at further improving user safety by providing important information about messages received from unknown numbers before users even open the chat.

Under the new feature introduced by the Meta-owned messaging platform, users will receive a special alert before a conversation with an unknown number begins.

The purpose of this feature is to protect users from potential scams and fraudulent activities by allowing them to assess the situation instead of responding immediately to unexpected messages.

WhatsApp is rolling out this update for both the Android and iOS platforms.

According to the company, the feature will provide users with information such as the country in which the number is registered, whether it may be appropriate to save the number in contacts, and whether both users are members of any mutual groups. Based on this information, users can decide whether or not they want to respond to the message.

During this process, the sender of the message will not receive any notification, ensuring that users' privacy remains fully protected.

According to the company, fraudsters often attempt to deceive users by pretending to be someone they know while using new phone numbers. The new security feature will specifically highlight numbers registered abroad, which is expected to help reduce international scam attempts.
