WhatsApp May Soon Block Logins on Older Smartphones

Karachi (Web Desk) — Meta may soon restrict access to WhatsApp on smartphones running older Android and iOS operating systems.

According to a report, WhatsApp will issue warnings to users who are using the app on phones with older operating systems. The warning will relate to the phone’s operating system rather than an older version of WhatsApp.

If the operating system is not updated to the required level, users will no longer be able to log in to WhatsApp and access to the app will be discontinued. If it is not possible to update the phone’s operating system, users will have to purchase a new smartphone to continue using WhatsApp.

The report does not currently clarify which older operating systems will be affected by the restriction. However, it is expected that some Android and iOS phones that are several years old could be affected.

WhatsApp recently ended support for Android 5.0 and 5.1, making Android 6 or later mandatory. Similarly, from November 30, 2026, an iPhone will require iOS 15.5 or later to use WhatsApp.

Therefore, the warning about blocked logins is likely to appear on phones running operating systems older than these requirements.
