Mumbai (Showbiz Desk): Indian actress Antra Banerjee became the target of a fake report circulating on social media due to mistaken identity, falsely accusing her of attacking a Railway Protection Force personnel with a blade on a train and being arrested.
According to the actress, she received the first call about the report on Sunday morning while on her way to the gym, after which she received more than 400 phone calls throughout the day. She continued explaining to her family members and other acquaintances that she was not the woman mentioned in the report.
Antra said that an online news report used her name in the morning, while by night the same report was circulating across various social media platforms along with her photograph and name.
The case actually concerned another woman named Antra Soham Banerjee, who was allegedly arrested on August 12 for arguing with railway police personnel on a train and subsequently attacking them with a blade. A case was also registered against her.
According to the actress, examination of the First Information Report made it clear that the names and other details of the two women were different. The alleged accused woman’s father is named Soham, while the actress’s father is Subrata Banerjee. Similarly, the accused woman’s address is listed as Thane, whereas the actress resides in Jogeshwari, Andheri West.
Antra Banerjee questioned how a person’s photograph and name could be used in connection with a news report without proper verification.
