YouTube Tightens Monetization Rules for New Creators

New York (Web Desk): YouTube has announced stricter requirements for new creators seeking to earn income through its platform. Under the new policy, creators joining the YouTube Partner Program to earn from advertisements and YouTube Premium will need to achieve more watch hours or Shorts views than previously required.

According to Google-owned YouTube, the new requirements will apply to new applicants from February 1, 2027. New creators will need to achieve 8,000 eligible watch hours over the previous 365 days or 20 million eligible YouTube Shorts views over the previous 90 days.

Previously, joining the YouTube Partner Program required 4,000 watch hours or 10 million Shorts views, meaning both targets have been doubled.

However, YouTube has not changed the minimum subscriber requirement. New creators will still need at least 1,000 subscribers to join the YouTube Partner Program.

More than 3 million creators worldwide are earning income from their videos through the YouTube Partner Program. The new policy will apply to creators submitting new applications to join the program from February 1, 2027.
