Agreement reached to repatriate 54 Pakistani citizens arrested in Cambodia

Islamabad ((Pakistan News) — The Foreign Office spokesperson has said that through diplomatic efforts, Cambodian authorities have agreed to soon repatriate 54 Pakistani citizens arrested in the Siem Reap province.

According to the spokesperson, the Pakistani embassy in Cambodia had been continuously monitoring the situation and remained in close contact with local authorities, while under the instructions of the Foreign Minister, efforts are being made to protect and facilitate Pakistanis abroad.

Details state that these Pakistani citizens were arrested during a raid on a compound linked to an online scam. Embassy officials are also actively working to ensure the welfare of the detained individuals.

The spokesperson added that Cambodian authorities have decided not to pursue further legal action under laws related to online scams, which otherwise carry strict penalties and heavy fines.

Once flight arrangements are finalized, these citizens will be sent back to Pakistan.
