Islamabad ((Pakistan News) — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that strong infrastructure, a comprehensive strategy, and public awareness are essential to deal with the devastating impacts of natural disasters.
In his message on the International Day for Disaster Victims of Earthquakes, he said the purpose of this day is to express solidarity and sympathy with earthquake victims, adding that Pakistan stands with affected people around the world.
According to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, early warning systems and strong construction standards are extremely important in reducing losses caused by earthquakes.
He recalled the devastating earthquake of October 2005, which is still part of the national memory, in which 80,000 people lost their lives and around 3 million people in Azad Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were displaced.
Shehbaz Sharif said the tragedy left deep impacts on the country’s human, social, and economic structure, but also became a symbol of national resilience and collective resolve.
He added that the government is working on community first responder training, school safety programs, and modern geographic information systems to improve disaster response capacity.
The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to building a safer and stronger future and stressed the need for the global community to intensify joint efforts to tackle disasters.
