Nagoya (Sports Desk) — Nepal, Afghanistan, Malaysia and Hong Kong have qualified for the quarterfinals of the men’s cricket event at the Asian Games.
Both matches scheduled for today in the group stage could not be completed due to rain. The match between Japan and Nepal began, but rain reduced it to 15 overs per innings.
Batting first, Nepal scored 149 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 15 overs. However, Japan’s innings could not begin due to rain.
As a result, Nepal qualified for the next stage with 3 points and Afghanistan with 2 points, while Japan were eliminated from the event.
Meanwhile, not a single ball could be bowled in the match between Malaysia and Oman. Oman were eliminated from the event with 1 point, while Malaysia, with 3 points, and Hong Kong, with 2 points, qualified for the quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinals, all four teams advancing from the group stage will face Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, who qualified directly for the quarterfinals.
