California (Web Desk) — Artificial intelligence company Anthropic has claimed that its AI system “Claude” has discovered an enzyme system in human DNA that was previously unknown.
According to the company, the discovery is still at an early stage, and further research and experiments are needed to understand the new system’s actual functions, biological significance and potential medical applications.
Anthropic described the discovery as similar to CRISPR, a technology used in genetic research. However, the company clarified that it is too early to say whether the new enzyme system can also be used in a similar way to CRISPR.
CRISPR is an important technology used for modifying DNA and conducting genetic research. Its discovery and development were recognized with the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2020.
Along with the announcement, Anthropic also publicly disclosed for the first time details about its biological research lab based in California. According to the company, hypotheses related to biological research are developed at the lab with the help of Claude and are subsequently tested through practical experiments.
