Deadly Explosion in Colombia’s Cauca Region, 20 Killed and Dozens Injured

Colombia (Monitoring Desk): At least 20 people have been killed and more than 38 injured, including children, in a devastating explosion in the south-western Cauca Department.

According to authorities, the blast occurred on the Pan-American Highway in the Cajibío area when an explosive-laden device detonated.

The governor of Cauca strongly condemned the incident, calling it a blind attack against civilians and urging the government to take immediate and strict action.

The commander of the Colombian Armed Forces described the incident as an act of terrorism, suggesting that dissident factions of a former guerrilla group may be involved.

President Gustavo Petro also condemned the attack, labeling those responsible as terrorists, fascists, and drug traffickers.

Reports indicate that the region has witnessed dozens of violent incidents in the past two days, including attacks on police and military installations as well as drone strikes. Authorities say the area has become a hotspot for armed group clashes due to its use in drug trafficking routes.
