Electricity Demand Rises Amid Intense Heatwave, Load Shedding and Shortfall Continue in Lahore

Lahore (Pakistan Desk) With the increase in severe heat, electricity demand has also risen, putting additional pressure on the power system.

In the provincial capital, unannounced and forced load shedding continues. Various urban areas are experiencing power outages lasting two to three hours, while rural areas are facing outages of up to four hours. Complaints have also emerged of prolonged outages due to transformer failures and other technical faults in several localities.

Between 5 PM and 12 AM, the average electricity demand was recorded at 3,787 megawatts, while supply stood at 3,053 megawatts, resulting in a shortfall of up to 682 megawatts during this period.

According to a LESCO spokesperson, uninterrupted electricity is being provided to non-independent industrial sectors, while load management of up to two hours was carried out on commercial and industrial feeders. Urban areas experienced outages of up to one hour and 30 minutes.

LESCO officials further stated that from midnight to 5 AM, demand was 3,510 megawatts while supply remained at 2,824 megawatts, with the shortfall reducing to 607 megawatts. During this period, no load management was carried out for non-independent industrial, commercial, and industrial feeders.

The LESCO spokesperson added that load management duration will be reduced further as soon as electricity supply improves.
