Islamabad (Commerce Desk) The Power Division has stated that the electricity shortfall during night-time hours is expected to end due to improved availability of LNG and increased water outflows.
In a statement regarding the power situation during peak hours on the night of April 29, the Power Division spokesperson said that no load management was carried out during last night’s peak demand period.
According to the statement, hydropower generation stood at 6,000 megawatts yesterday, while the country’s total installed hydropower capacity is 11,500 megawatts. It further added that improved domestic gas supply has increased the output of several power plants.
The spokesperson said that due to hydropower and additional local gas availability, stability was achieved in the national grid from the southern region, resulting in an additional 100 megawatts and a total of 500 megawatts of electricity being transmitted.
The Power Division noted that economic load management is being implemented on feeders with high losses, but clarified that this is not related to peak-hour load shedding.
It further stated that due to global conditions, 4,700 megawatts of power plants are affected by LNG shortages. However, with improved LNG supply and increased water flows, the night-time shortfall is expected to be eliminated.
