Weekly Inflation Rises as Petroleum Price Hike Impacts Economy

Islamabad (Commerce Desk): The weekly inflation rate in the country has increased due to the rising prices of petroleum products.

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, inflation rose by 0.47% during the past week, while on a year-on-year basis, inflation has reached 14.52%.

The report states that prices of 23 essential items increased during the week, while only 9 items became cheaper. The highest increase was recorded in food items and vegetables.

Statistics show that tomato prices increased by more than 22%, while a 20-kg flour bag became about 5% more expensive. Similarly, diesel prices rose by 3.76% and petrol by 3.73%.

Other items including onions, bananas, milk, sugar, potatoes, and yogurt also saw price increases.

The report further noted that on an annual basis, flour prices have increased by over 57%, while petrol and diesel prices have risen by 64% and 61% respectively.

On the other hand, slight decreases were recorded in the prices of chicken, eggs, and LPG.
