Global pressure on Taliban government increases, new report on terrorism and sanctions released

Kabul (Monitoring Desk): The Taliban government in Afghanistan is reportedly facing growing international isolation and intense diplomatic pressure at the global level.

The report claims that due to alleged links with terrorism, drug smuggling, and other criminal networks, trust of the international community in the Taliban administration has been significantly affected.

According to a report by the US-based research institute Middle East Institute, around 55 members and officials of the Taliban government are allegedly linked directly or indirectly to Al-Qaeda, while some leaders have also been associated with past violent activities.

According to Afghan media outlet Afghanistan International, several members of the Taliban cabinet are already on the United Nations sanctions list, while reports have also emerged regarding asset freezes and travel restrictions imposed on some senior officials.

The report further states that dozens of individuals and organizations linked to the Taliban are included in global sanctions lists, which is limiting their international engagement.

Experts say that such allegations and sanctions are increasing diplomatic challenges for Afghanistan’s government and further deepening its political and economic isolation at the regional and global level.
