Washington, Tehran (Monitoring Desk): Tensions between Washington and Tehran have once again intensified after the United States claimed to have seized an Iranian commercial vessel in the Gulf of Oman, prompting a strong reaction from Iran, which termed the move “armed maritime piracy.”
According to US President Donald Trump, during a US naval blockade in the Gulf, an Iranian-flagged cargo ship was ordered to stop. However, after alleged non-compliance, the US Navy reportedly took control of the vessel.
The US Central Command also released a video of the operation, showing a naval vessel intercepting and later taking action against the Iranian cargo ship. The report claims that scenes of damage to the ship’s engine room and restrictions on crew movement were also visible.
On the other hand, Iran’s Khatam-al Anbiya Central Headquarters described the operation as a blatant violation of the ceasefire, stating that the United States not only showed aggression but also violated maritime laws.
According to Iranian military spokesperson Colonel Ibrahim Zulfiqar, US forces fired at the Iranian commercial vessel in the Gulf of Oman, disrupted its navigation system, and deployed armed personnel on board in an attempt to seize control.
Iranian officials have stated that a strong and appropriate response will be given, while concerns of further escalation in the region have increased.
Experts say that incidents in sensitive waterways such as the Gulf of Oman pose serious risks to global energy supply chains and regional peace.
