Peshawar (Pakistan News): Measures to protect forests from wildfires have been intensified in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where the Forest Department has completed the construction of a total of 8.2 kilometres of fire lines in the Barikot Block over the past month.
According to the Forest Department, an additional 3.4 kilometres of fire lines were constructed between October 19 and 29, 2026. These protective strips have been established along hilltops and natural slopes in compartments No. 14, 36 and 45.
The fire lines were constructed under the Forest Development Fund (FDF) scheme, with daily-wage workers taking part in the work. The routes have also been cleared of bushes and other flammable material.
The Forest Department said the fire lines would help prevent the spread of fires through forests and make it easier for firefighting teams to reach affected locations during emergencies.
According to the department, preventive measures will continue to protect, restore and sustainably manage forests, safeguarding them against the devastating effects of wildfires.
