Audit Report: Over Rs. 72 Billion in KP Government Spending Remains Unverified

Peshawar (Pakistan News): An audit report has revealed billions of rupees in financial irregularities and serious accounting flaws during the PTI government’s tenure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the 2024-25 fiscal year.

According to the audit report, government expenditures amounting to Rs. 72.46 billion in the province could not be fully verified. Meanwhile, an amount of Rs. 104.26 billion exceeding the budget approved by the provincial assembly was recorded in the SAP system, raising questions about the transparency of the financial system.

The report stated that development expenditures amounting to Rs. 153.68 billion were incorrectly recorded under accounting heads. Recording development funds as current expenditures exposed serious flaws in the government’s financial statements.

According to the audit report, a negative balance of Rs. 39.58 billion was also found in the Public Account, indicating that payments exceeded receipts. In addition, the accounting records of the province’s external loans amounting to Rs. 98.89 billion were declared incomplete.

The report further stated that complete details of receipts, repayments and grants related to external loans were unavailable. Furthermore, payments amounting to Rs. 51.85 billion made against foreign loans and interest could not be fully verified. Audit officials raised serious objections over these financial matters.
