New Delhi (Monitoring Desk): Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that she is determined to return to her country by December this year despite threats to her life.
Sheikh Hasina said that she is aware of the risks of arrest, imprisonment, and even being killed, but she wants to return to her country following the wishes of the people.
According to a foreign news agency, in her written statement, the 78-year-old Sheikh Hasina said that she knows what circumstances she may face upon returning to Bangladesh, but she intends to return to her homeland at the request of her people.
Sheikh Hasina stepped down from power in August 2024 following an anti-government movement led by students, after which she moved to India by helicopter. During the unrest, protesters had reached her official residence.
According to the United Nations, around 1,400 people were killed during the crackdown on anti-government protests.
Later, in November 2025, a Dhaka court convicted Sheikh Hasina in a case involving crimes against humanity and sentenced her to death. However, the former prime minister rejected the verdict, calling it “political revenge under the cover of law.”
