Israeli Firm Investigated Over Alleged Tracking of Starlink Users

Tokyo (Web Desk): Cybersecurity experts have alleged that Israeli ad-tech company Discover Tech was attempting to track the locations and online activities of users of Starlink, Elon Musk’s SpaceX satellite internet service, by targeting them through digital advertisements.

According to researchers at a Tokyo-based cybersecurity firm, Discover Tech was among the highest bidders for advertisements shown to Starlink users in more than 100 countries. These included some regions where Starlink is banned or subject to strict restrictions.

According to the report, digital advertising bidding systems can potentially provide access to users’ internet data. When combined with other available information, this data can be used to identify users and track their locations and online activities.

Following the findings, Google, Comcast and other companies announced that they would remove Discover Tech from their advertising platforms. Meanwhile, some US and international organisations have also launched investigations amid concerns that their employees may have been targeted.
