Microsoft AI System Outperforms Doctors in Diagnosing Complex Diseases

New York (Web Desk): Artificial intelligence has attracted attention in the medical world after demonstrating better performance than doctors in diagnosing complex diseases. Microsoft experts have developed a new AI diagnostic system called MAI-DxO, which helps identify diseases using fewer tests and at lower costs.

According to a Microsoft report, the system is not intended to replace doctors but to assist them in understanding complex medical cases step by step and reaching accurate diagnoses.

The system was tested on medical cases commonly encountered in emergency departments in the United States, where it achieved approximately 1.7 times greater diagnostic accuracy than doctors. In some cases, it reached diagnoses at half or one-third of the cost incurred by human physicians while using relatively fewer tests.

According to a report published in the American journal Science, the AI system achieved a diagnostic success rate of 83.2%, compared with 36.1% for human doctors. In another experiment involving emergency department cases, AI achieved an accuracy rate of 80.3%, while human physicians achieved 46.8%.

Experts say this development could help doctors analyse patients’ symptoms, medical histories and test results, compare possible diseases, and avoid unnecessary medical tests in the future.
