Mumbai (Sports Desk): Indian cricket team chief selector Ajit Agarkar has decided not to apply for an extension after his current contract ends. The former Indian all-rounder informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India of his decision this week.
Agarkar had also contacted the board over the past few months to find out whether they wanted him to continue as chief selector until the 2027 World Cup.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said on Friday that the board still has time to decide Agarkar’s future. He said the board would take a decision on the matter at the appropriate time.
Agarkar took charge as chief selector in July 2023. During his tenure, the Indian team achieved several significant successes, while he also played a role in preparing young players and planning for the formation of the future team in coordination with the board and team management.
Under his leadership, India won the Asia Cup in 2023 and 2025, the T20 World Cup in 2024 and 2026, and the Champions Trophy in 2025, while also reaching the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup.
