Lahore (Sports Desk) – Pakistan cricket team wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan has responded to critics who held him responsible for the national team's defeat against India in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Speaking on a podcast, 28-year-old Azam Khan said it was unfair to blame him for the team's failure throughout the tournament, as he had played only one match in the event and faced just one delivery.
Azam Khan said that those criticising his physical fitness and playing ability should also consider that Pakistan's other fit and top-performing players had failed to chase a target of 120 runs against India.
It is worth mentioning that India defeated Pakistan by 6 runs in the match played in New York on June 9, 2024. Batting first, India scored 119 runs, while the Pakistani team managed only 113 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
For India, Jasprit Bumrah delivered an outstanding bowling performance, taking 3 wickets for just 14 runs.
Azam Khan was dismissed for a duck on the very first ball he faced in Pakistan's opening match against the United States. Following that, he was not given an opportunity to play in any other match of the tournament. Pakistan also failed to progress beyond the group stage.
