Algeria (Monitoring Desk) At least 25 people have been killed and 44 others injured in a tragic bus accident in Algeria’s northern Boumerdes province.
According to officials, the accident occurred when a passenger bus lost control while traveling on the highway, went off the road, and overturned.
Initial reports said that the bus was traveling from Setif to the capital Algiers. Shortly after the accident, civil defense teams, police, and medical rescue units reached the scene and began relief operations.
The injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals, where some are reported to be in critical condition, raising fears that the death toll may increase.
Authorities have started the identification process of the deceased, while their families are being informed.
The Algerian government has ordered an investigation into the accident. Although the exact cause has not yet been determined, initial reports suggest speeding, loss of control by the driver, or poor road conditions as possible reasons.
Officials said that speeding, violation of traffic laws, poor vehicle conditions, and lack of safety measures on some highways contribute to a large number of accidents every year.
A detailed investigation into the incident is ongoing, while emergency measures are being taken to provide better medical facilities to the injured and support affected families.
