Mumbai (Showbiz Desk) — Rumors about a relationship between renowned Indian filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma and actress Urmila Matondkar had emerged during the 1990s, and now a new claim by a senior journalist has once again brought the two into the spotlight.
According to Indian media reports, senior journalist Jyoti Venkatesh has claimed that Ram Gopal Varma and Urmila Matondkar allegedly had a secret marriage during their relationship.
Speaking in a YouTube program, Jyoti Venkatesh said that he learned about this from actor Chiranjeevi when he visited him on the sets of the film “Gentleman.”
According to the journalist, Chiranjeevi asked him that if he wrote about every topic as a journalist, why had he not written about the marriage of Ram Gopal Varma and Urmila. Jyoti Venkatesh said that when he asked for proof of the claim, he was told that the marriage took place at a temple in Andhra Pradesh, and he was also provided contact details of the priest who was present there.
He said that before publishing the news, he contacted Urmila Matondkar for confirmation; however, according to him, the actress became emotional and expressed anger over the possibility of the report being published. The journalist added that he also tried to seek Ram Gopal Varma’s response, but the filmmaker refused to comment.
Jyoti Venkatesh also claimed that the reason behind their alleged separation was that Urmila wanted a legal marriage, while Ram Gopal Varma was not ready for that decision at the time, which led to the end of their relationship.
Ram Gopal Varma and Urmila Matondkar worked together in several popular films, including “Rangeela,” “Daud,” “Satya,” and “Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya.”
