Islamabad (Commerce Desk): A request for an increase of 82 paisa per unit in electricity prices for the entire country has been submitted.
The request has been filed by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority under the monthly fuel price adjustment for May.
According to NEPRA, a hearing on the request will be held on June 30, after which a final decision will be made.
CPPA data shows that the average fuel cost of electricity in May was recorded at Rs 9.25 per unit, compared to the estimated Rs 8.43 per unit.
Sources say that if the increase is approved, it could place an additional burden of approximately Rs 12 billion on consumers.
