Karachi (Commerce Desk): State Bank Deputy Governor Saleemullah has said that government borrowing will be aligned with Sharia principles from January 1, 2028.
Speaking at an event in Karachi, Saleemullah said that Pakistan’s Islamic banking sector has witnessed significant progress over the past few years.
He stated that Islamic banking accounts for 29 percent of total bank deposits, while 40 percent of the banking sector’s total financing has been provided by Islamic banks.
The State Bank deputy governor said that efforts are continuing to promote Islamic banking in the country, and significant growth has been witnessed in this sector.
